When I was a child, an article on a retired major of the navy whose hobby was to build wooden models of ancient ships drew particularly my attention. This article, very nicely illustrated, highlighted the very fine sculptures on the back castle of a vessel of the XVIII-th C. Carlos Serrano I wanted to do the same and put myself in search of a piece of wood, and something to cut it. A bevelled razor blade pricked to my Father did nicely. This is how my passion for carving wood was born.

My first sculptures were miniatures in soft wood. As sculpture was just a ¨hobby " for me, I lost an infinite time due to the lack of technique, because it is one thing to cut soft wood with a razor blade but quite another with hard wood!...The fate made me meet an old sculptor who taught me how to sharpen gouges. It took me a long period to improve the carving technique and to learn about wood but it is so pleasant!...

I was lucky to live in a beautiful country, Morocco, for the biggest part of my life, Tangier, Marrakech and Casablanca. The beauty of the landscapes, the richness of its architecture, the skill of the craftsmen and the ancestral traditions, are inexhaustible sources of inspiration, add to this a warm hospitality. That's why most of my carvings are IMAGES from this attaching country that I warmly invite you to discover... Meanwhile, I suggest you to visit my woodcarvings Gallery for a timeless journey...Enjoy your visit.
